John Oyhenart

Professional Coach, Senior Facilitator

John Oyhenart is an ICF (International Coach Federation) credentialed Professional Coach (ACC level) with over 30 years of leadership experience in the private and non-profit sectors. 

John’s background includes  leadership positions in the utility and energy consulting industries, where he led high-performing teams in a range of disciplines including engineering, accounting, project management, marketing, communications, and consulting.  He was also treasurer and president of the Hispanic Committee of Virginia, a social service agency located in Northern Virginia whose mission was to help immigrants assimilate and become fully-contributing members of American society.

John’s coaching approach is centered around helping leaders recognize their strengths and explore how they can be leveraged to build trust, motivate teams, and create lasting change. He supports their work by helping them identify key goals and objectives, recognize and modify behaviors, and commit to actions that lead to success. His coaching approach draws on his extensive leadership training and senior management experience, along with his understanding of individual, team, and organizational dynamics in the workplace. John has worked with leaders in a wide variety of organizations, including federal intelligence, transportation, financial, and energy agencies; global pharmaceutical companies; electric and gas utilities; regional transportation and energy authorities; consulting firms; community-based organizations; and medium-to-small businesses.  His educational background includes a B.S. in Economics from George Mason University, an MBA in Information Systems from George Washington University, and professional certificates in Organization Development (Georgetown University) and Leadership Coaching (George Mason University). 

His professional credentials include Associate Certified Coach (ACC) from the International Coach Federation and adjunct faculty positions at the world-renowned Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), George Mason University, and the AESP Institute.  He is certified in CCL's 360-degree leadership assessment suite, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®), the FIRO-B® Assessment, the EQ-i 2.0 and EQ360 Emotional Intelligence assessments, and the Influence Style Indicator. 

John has dedicated a significant portion of his personal and professional life in service to the non-profit community, serving in senior board-level positions in social service, arts, philanthropic, and professional organizations throughout the 1990s and 2000s. 

A native of Uruguay, John is fluent in English and Spanish.  He lives in Fairfax, Virginia.
